Soft sheets. Comfy pillows. Cozy duvet. Bedding that looks good, and feels even better. Sounds heavenly, right? Good news, this designer-inspired idea (that you’ve probably only seen in magazines until now) is not out of reach! Simple tips and a designer mind. That’s all you need.
The tips, we’ll discuss below. The designer mind, will come when you follow the tips 😉
Start with a High-Quality Foundation
High-quality sheets, we mean. An excellent thread count (300-400) and good material is what you need to look for—designers commonly recommend…
- Cotton (particularly 100% Egyptian)
- Poly-blend sheets (loved because they’re wrinkle-resistant)
- Supima cotton (extremely soft)
- Linen (great if you live in a hot climate)
We also love the idea of all-white sheets. Don’t worry, it won’t be boring because 1) You can mix every and any color throw pillows 2) White sheets are the easiest to keep clean (unpopular opinion, but it’s true; just a bit of bleach + a long washing machine cycle will do the job!).
Layer with Quilts, Blankets, and a Duvet
Layers over layers—and more layers; the secret to making your bed look luxurious.
Add a blanket (the first layer over the bedsheet). Follow with a duvet. While many people believe duvets and sheets must be matching sets, it’s not always necessary. Really. You don’t need to match the sheets; rather, the two should coordinate. In terms of styling, fold the duvet into two halves (or thirds). Fluff it up big, and place it at the bottom of the bed. Bonus points if you’ve got a printed, beautiful blanket that can peek from the sides of the duvet 😁
Now you can either add a comforter over the duvet, or go for multiple layers of thin quilts. The latter is a better choice, though. They are easier to wash, and can be used all year round. You can try a chunky knit for the final layer; it adds a lovely, subtle luxe factor.
Add Pillows (and Shams)
A part of the bed where creativity fits the most. Keep it simple, or fancy it up. Tone down the colors, or make them pop. Mix patterns or add texture.
You’d want to consider the color scheme and the headboard (is it high; is it solid; is it metal-framed?). Of course, the overall look is equally essential. Two pillows + two shams would work for a streamlined look. Match the base pillows to the sheets and the shams to the duvet; but no hard and fast rules here, customization is welcomed. An additional two or three 20-inch square pillows (on the front) would look amazing for a fluffier, more luxe look.
Bring in Dimension…
…with decorative pillows. Could be two-three 20-inch square pillows. A stacked-pyramid look. A simple, long lumbar. Basically anything that adds extra texture & pattern. And it doesn’t always have to be a polished, symmetrical look. Mixing & matching adds unexpected aesthetics!
Don’t Skimp on the Bed Skirt
No, it’s not old-school. In fact, the latest luxury bedroom trends 2025 are reviving vintage decor; bed skirts being on the lead here. Expect to see box pleat, ruffled, and tailored skirt styles most commonly. Designers have also predicted designs like scalloped edges (and bold patterns).
Whatever the style, coordinate the color of your bed skirt with the duvet. And if you’re following the “color-drench trend,” we’d suggest opting for a different shade of the same color.
Install a Canopy or Bed Frame with Upholstery
Again, this might be considered an outdated trend—and again, it’s making a major comeback. Canopies are having a moment in 2025. And why not? They add a stunning blend of old-world charm and modern sophistication. An aesthetic that never fails to speak luxury.
Talking about a bed frame with upholstery, it’s a feature that never went away. We see it in every luxurious bedroom, whatever the design style (modern, Scandi, eclectic, etc.). Perhaps because of how effortlessly it uplifts a room.
Focus on Details for a Luxurious Finish
Think of all those things that slip the mind when designing a cozy bed. Those little elements that aren’t seemingly too important. Where do your thoughts lead you to? Do you think of monogramming on pillowcases? Or does your mind go to the scalloped edges on some duvet covers? Hmm.. or maybe ironing the sheets? Yes, that’s what we’re talking about; the little details that give your room a truly luxurious finish.
Look into Seasonal Swaps
A cozy bed is one that feels comfortable, all year round. But that doesn’t happen magically 😆 It demands effort (read: seasonal swaps). Keep the bedding lightweight during the hot months. Pastel or floral patterns are a plus for the vibes. Switch to cozy flannel sheets when the temperatures drop; warm colors would add to the luxury.
Create a Hotel-Like Experience
A luxurious bed can be translated as a ‘hotel bed.’ They’re so luxurious, for some reason. That ‘reason’ is the secret… and we’ll break it down here for you to replicate easily 😉
A good mattress. Hotels never skimp here. Because they have to accommodate different people with different needs, they tend to choose a middle option: not too soft, not too hard. But for your bedroom, you can go for a particular choice. A firm mattress (for backache problems). A fluffy option (for extra coziness). And if you’re not yet buying a new one, a mattress topper will do the job.
Sheets with a good thread count. 300 to 600 is preferred (Egyptian cotton, sateen, percale, etc. all work). Also, if you ever notice closely, hotel rooms have two fitted sheets; one tightly tucked in horizontally, the other vertically. Do the same, and see the difference!
Layering. Of course. The most important part. Quilts, duvets, comforters, throw blankets, pillows (& more pillows). Take every opportunity that makes the bed fluffy.
All-white bedding. Vibrant bedding looks nice—no denying it. But the vibe of all-white sheets? Unmatched. Seriously. The crisp, clean vibe. The freshness. And the timeless elegance. Looks so good.
Relaxing scents. A small addition that makes a big difference. Try seasonal scents for the ultimate vibes.
